The Turnaround Continues...
Neal St. Anthony’s column in the Business section
From Star Tribune, Tuesday, April 3, 2001

The turnaround continues under Chief Executive Jerry Noyce at Health Fitness Corp. of Bloomington. The company last week reported a profit of nearly $1 million for 2000, compared with a loss of $2.9 million in 1999.

Today, Health Fitness, which retained turnaround-firm Manchester Companies in 1999, will announce four new directors to its board.

They are Dr. K James Ehlen, former president of Allina Health System; John Penn, chief executive of Satellite Companies; Linda Hall Whitman, former president of Ceridian Performance Partners; and Rodney Young, chief executive of LecTec Corp. They will join Noyce, CEO since last November; Manchester Companies CEO Mark Sheffert; and Jim Bernards, president of Brightstone Capital.

The company, which had flat revenue of $26.2 million during its restructuring year of 2000, is part of the growing business of managing corporate and hospital-based health and fitness centers at more than 150 locations in the United States and Canada. Noyce, 56, a former University of Minnesota tennis coach and graduate of its business school, previously was an executive with Northwest Racquet Swim and Health Clubs, purchased from local owners in 1997 by the Wellbridge Co.

After that acquisition, Noyce served as regional manager for Northwest and the Flagship Athletic Clubs before joining Health Fitness.
